Makeup: Empowerment or Enslavement?

Heya Everyone,
Not posted since my intro a couple of month ago but this time come bearing a question. I am a major makeup fan, absolutely love it to bits and I always have. I feel much more confident, happier, secure and generally more like me when wearing it. As much as I personally love it I am aware that alot of people dislike it (wearing and looking at it), but each to their own.  Recently, someone told me that make up was basically a tool devised by men to control women and only acts as a way to objectify them, and basically that those who wore it were weak (minded and willed), deluded (my category apparently) or prostitutes/tarts. This floored me, I have heard really very elderly people saying too much makeup is for women of questionable moral but all of this from a 20- something?

Anyway, I have been trying to work out if there were a lot of people who thought this or whether it was that this person was an anomally and I was wondering what everyone here thought?

Well personally I have tons of makeup, but I don't wear very much of it though. Whenever I do wear it though, it's usually very little.

I don't think it's a tool used to control women though. Some women just wear it to feel pretty and make themselves happy.
